Sauna Protocol

Here is a science-supported, step-by-step protocol, broken down by pre-, during, and post-sauna phases, including the use of electrolytes, water, and specific supplements for optimal detoxification.

𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹
Hydrate with at least 475–600 mLof water, ideally 1–2 hours before the session.

Add electrolytes to your water, or consume hydrating fruits (such as oranges or watermelon) and avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can promote dehydration.

If following a 𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘰𝘹 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭, take your niacin dose around 30 minutes before entering the sauna (consult your physician for safe dosage and use; typical detox doses can trigger a "niacin flush").

Wait 1–2 hours after a meal before starting your session.

𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
Use the sauna at 43–60°C for 15–45 minutes, adjusting to comfort and experience level.

Sip 120–240 mL of water every 10–15 minutes, especially if the session exceeds 20 minutes.

For longer or more intense sessions, use electrolyte-infused water or drinks containing sodium, potassium, magnesium, and a pinch of sea salt to replace minerals lost through sweat.

Listen to your body and exit early if you become lightheaded, excessively fatigued, or overly hot.

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹
Immediately after the session, towel off to remove sweat and expelled toxins.

Take 2–4 capsules of activated charcoal with plenty of water; this helps bind and eliminate toxins mobilized by niacin and sweating.

Take a cold or lukewarm shower for 1–2 minutes to wash toxins from the skin and further promote circulation.

Drink 475–700 mL of water with added electrolytes (such as commercial electrolyte packets, coconut water, or plain water with lemon and sea salt) within 30 minutes post-session.

Continue sipping fluids for the next hour, aiming to replace at least 50% of the sweat loss.

𝙽̲𝚒̲𝚊̲𝚌̲𝚒̲𝚗̲ ̲(̲𝚅̲𝚒̲𝚝̲𝚊̲𝚖̲𝚒̲𝚗̲ ̲𝙱̲𝟹̲)̲:̲ ̲Take before the sauna to mobilize fat-stored toxins (start with a small dose, such as 50–100 mg, and incrementally increase as tolerated—avoid high doses without professional medical guidance).

𝙰̲𝚌̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚟̲𝚊̲𝚝̲𝚎̲𝚍̲ ̲𝙲̲𝚑̲𝚊̲𝚛̲𝚌̲𝚘̲𝚊̲𝚕̲:̲ ̲Take immediately after sauna to act as a toxin binder.

𝙴̲𝚕̲𝚎̲𝚌̲𝚝̲𝚛̲𝚘̲𝚕̲𝚢̲𝚝̲𝚎̲ ̲𝙱̲𝚕̲𝚎̲𝚗̲𝚍̲𝚜̲:̲ ̲Choose blends or powders that include sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium (avoid excess sugar; a pinch of sea salt and squeeze of lemon is an effective natural alternative).

𝙼̲𝚞̲𝚕̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚟̲𝚒̲𝚝̲𝚊̲𝚖̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚜̲:̲ May be added post-session to support overall recovery and replenish micronutrients.
